This kokeshi is inspired by hanafuda, “flower cards” that are used to play a variety of games in East Asia. The shika (deer) card is part of the momiji (Japanese maple) suit representing the month of October.

Please note that although kokeshi are dolls, this kokeshi is a sculpture, not a toy, and will not stand up to rigorous play.

  • Yubinuki: Silk thread, silk batting, cotton

    Kokeshi: Painted and lacquered birch wood

  • If you need to clean your yubinuki, use cold water on a cotton bud and gently dab it along the stain. Follow the direction of the threads to avoid disordering them.

    Store out of direct sunlight, as it will cause the colors to fade over time.
